Collaboration Building a mock enterprise IT environment on AWS — looking for learning partners
Hey r/devops,
I'm a Linux engineer transitioning into a DevOps/SRE role and I want to build a realistic mock IT environment on AWS to use as a portfolio project on my GitLab. Looking for a few people at a similar stage to build it alongside.
**The stack I want to cover:**
\- **AWS** — VPC, EC2, S3, IAM, EKS, maybe RDS
\- **Terraform** — provision all infrastructure as code
\- **Ansible** — configuration management and server provisioning
\- **Kubernetes (EKS)** — deploy and manage containerized workloads
\- **GitLab CI/CD** — full pipeline: lint, test, build, deploy
\- **Bash** — automation scripts throughout
\- **Git** — proper branching strategy, MRs, code review
**The goal:** Simulate what a real org's infra might look like — not just hello world stuff. Think: a deployed app with a proper pipeline, IaC for everything, config management, and monitoring.
I'm not looking for someone to hand-hold me or vice versa — just people who want to actually build something, get stuck together, and figure it out. Async-friendly, everything tracked in GitLab issues.
Drop a comment or DM if you're interested. Would love to hear what you'd want to add to the scope too.
