Senior Rust Engineer Full-time/Company: Synonym Founded in 2020, Synonym is building the world’s first digital free-market society and the R&D required to deliver “The Atomic Economy.” Their products include Pubky (self-sovereign identity & open social graph), Pubky Ring (keychain & auth), Bitkit (Bitcoin & Lightning wallet), and Blocktank (Lightning Service Provider). The team’s mission is to create interoperable, open-source alternatives that empower individual digital autonomy. Applicants from the USA (citizens and residents) are not eligible. Responsibilities: - Architect, develop, and maintain robust Rust-based solutions for core products and protocols. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, UX, QA) to integrate features and improvements. - Perform code reviews and maintain high standards of code quality and documentation. - Optimize applications for speed, reliability, and scalability. - Research and propose improvements based on emerging libraries and industry trends. - Ensure security and reliability to protect user data and system integrity. Requirements: - Proven experience building production-grade applications or systems in Rust. - Experience with low-level systems programming, concurrency, and performance optimization. - Familiarity with database management and RESTful APIs. - Strong problem-solving skills and ability to deliver scalable solutions. - Excellent communication and ability to work effectively in a fully remote team. - Proficient with Git or similar version control tools. Nice to have: - Practical knowledge of cryptography and secure data handling. - Experience building secure server protections and access controls. - Exposure to decentralized / peer-to-peer architectures and protocols. - Experience with Bitcoin or other blockchain technologies. - Prior work on decentralized or federated social platforms (Nostr, Mastodon, Bluesky).
