Description
Hi, I have been working as a DevOps Engineer for about 7.5 years now. I have good knowledge of BitBucket, JIRA, Jenkins, Ansible Tower. I have a good team and I learnt most of these tools on the job. I support LLE deploys and the environment maintainance. Also, I do extensive prep work for PROD deploys while some other team deploys the changes to PROD. I sat through many PROD deploys and have resolved many issues and helped the teams complete their deploys. Now, I have an opportunity to move into release management team. The same team I have worked with on so many occasions. I'll be looking at things from a different perspective and I like to run the co-ordination among various teams and the business stakeholders. To be able to govern and the idea of ownership side of PROD deploys is appealing to me. I have been meaning to see a change in what I do and I like this new opportunity. It is very tempting. But will I be leaving behind the technical side of things? Will I be the only person standing, few years down the lane, while everyone is dashing ahead with DevOps (OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker etc) + AI ? I am in bit of a dilemma with this. Can you please suggest if you think moving would be a good or a bad idea ? Any and all feedback is welcome. Thank you.
